Russian fighter jets encountered an American destroyer in the Black Sea
Russian Information Agency (RIA) said that Russian military aircraft have received orders to take off to deal with an American warship which was acting in a "hostile" way in the Black Sea.
The agency quoted a Russian military source as saying that the American destroyer "Ross" was traveling along the edge of the Russian territorial waters and moving in their direction.
The source claimed that the US warship crew acted in "provocative manner", which raised concern to the monitoring stations and the Black Sea Fleet ships.
He also pointed out that by by flying the 24 Sukhoi fighter jets, was sending a message to the Americans to prevent them from violating the border.
The confrontation is the latest episode in a series of clashes between Russian forces and Western troops because of the tension caused by the crisis in Ukraine and after the claiming of Crimea by Moscow.
Britain, Sweden, said earlier this month that they ordered fighter jets to take off to intercept Russian bombers flew near their airspace.
The United States announced last month that it would complain to Russia due to a Russian fighter which intercepted a US reconnaissance plane in an "unsafe and unprofessional manner " in international airspace over the Baltic Sea.
