Legislative Committee in the Israeli cabinet Sunday approved legislation that aims to tighten sanctions on stone-throwers, after a wave of Palestinian protests last year in Jerusalem.
The draft law whcih had granted approval by the parliament allowed penalties up to twenty years in prison for throwing a stone which intended to causing bodily harm.
But the new justice minister in Israeli political right-wing extremist Elite Shaked complained that the penalty which will be applied is likely to be much lighter because of the difficulty of proving such intent, especially in cases of stone throwing in the streets mass protests.
She (Elite Shaked) said through Twitter that a ministerial committee approved her proposed amendments, which included a clause prison with sentence that lasts to ten years without the need to prove that the accused threw stones had the intention to harm any one.
Judicial officials say the plaintiffs now seek sanctions usually do not exceed three months in prison for throwing stones which does not cause serious injury.
After the legislative committee and approved in the Israeli Cabinet on the draft revised law, can now accelerate that by passing the draft through parliament, where the government of Benjamin Netanyahu controls 61 seats among total of 120 seats.
A draft law was introduced previously by former Justice Minister Tzipi Livni, after a wave of Palestinian protests in Jerusalem last year, erupted after settlers kidnapped a Palestinian boy in the city and killed him in July 2014.
